One Hard Thing

We know what to do.
That is the problem.
Most of the time, you know exactly what you should do.
Eat healthier. Exercise more. Don’t take things so seriously.
Take care of yourself.
So why don’t we do it?
That is the hard thing - maybe one of the hardest.
Following your own advice.
We have all had that experience with friends and family where we know the advice we are giving them is good advice.
And you know that if they just listened to you, their problems would be solved.
The fact is that it is incredible easy to problem solve when you are not in the situation.
You can be an objective observer.
But when you are the subject of the situation, it’s a completely different story.
We make choices that are easier in the short term.
We avoid pain and seek pleasure, however big or small.
Or we don’t give ourselves grace because we don’t think we deserve it.
So what can you do?
Try to make yourself into an outside observer.
Imagine yourself as a character or a friend and jot down the facts of the situation - and try to ignore the immediate feelings.
Often times, when we see the reality of a situation from the outside, clarity can come quickly.
So create some space for yourself and then re-assess.
What situation are you currently in that could use another perspective?
What are the facts? Is there another way to look at it?
